Air Show Opportunity

2024 Air Show

As part of a fundraising effort for units, volunteers from military units are needed in various areas throughout the Miramar Air Show. From assisting with set-up, to manning different areas during Air Show weekend, to assisting with tear-down and clean-up, over 1000 volunteers are needed over the course of the week. Commands participating in this effort will earn money towards their unit accounts. The amount of funds earned varies from year to year, but are based on the number of volunteers the command provides, and the various shifts that volunteers are provided for.

Shift times are as follows:

9/25 Wednesday 8:00am-4:30pm
9/26 Thursday: 8:00am-4:30pm
9/27 Friday: 7:00am-5:00pm
9/28 Saturday: 7:00am-5:00pm
9/29 Sunday: 7:00-5:00pm
9/30 Sunday Tear Down: 3:00pm-9:00pm

Volunteer Opportunities

Food and Beverage

Volunteers raise money for their unit by working in food and beverage sales. Approximately 600 volunteers are needed to staff food and beverage booths and carts during the three scheduled Air Shows: Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Grand Stands & Seating

Volunteers may be asked to serve as ushers, as security and to assist with maintenance of the grandstands and seating areas. Volunteers assigned to man one of the three entrances will either be scanning tickets, applying wrist bands or stamps, passing out brochures and/or watching the reentry. Volunteers assigned to box seating will be stationed in the box seating area where they will direct patrons to their correct seating area.

Catering & Chalets

The Semper Fi Catering and Events branch of the Airshow is responsible for producing food for all of the Corporate and Ticketed chalets on the flight line. Volunteers are needed in multiple areas as runners and to provide security for access to the chalets. Volunteers interact closely with Airshow patrons as well as experience another level of service provided. This area can be very fast-paced, with a lot of moving parts, and we are looking for people who are enthusiastic, and ready to move fast.

Vendor Access and Parking

Volunteers assist with screening authorized Air Show vendors/ contractors for access to the Flight Line during set up and during the show and operating vendor parking area inside the flight line.

Logistics/Maintenance

Volunteers may be asked to assist with monitoring/tracking or transporting minor equipment or supplies or assisting with restocking or distribution of ice for various AOR or vendors.
